Pokedex 3D "Review"

Honestly, I have no idea how I am supposed to "review" this "game." I say "game" because it's more of a
tool for looking at Pokemon and looking at their Pokedex entries without having to catch the Pokemon first. Whenever you download it, you get 16 Pokemon, and average getting 2-3 Pokemon a day through SpotPass. I've had it since it first came out, and I currently have 41 Pokemon. I don't have much to say about this, besides if your a Pokemon fan like me, you will probably enjoy this. It doesn't hurt to download this either, as it's free. However, if you are not a fan of Pokemon, you will probably have no interest in this and it won't change your mind about the Pokemon series. I'm not going to give this a score, because it's not really a game, just a Pokedex app.

3D Classics: Excitebike Review

If you haven't got this yet, get it on the eShop. It's free until July 7th (I think), so there's no harm. If you don't see the eShop on your 3DS, you need to update your system in System Settings. Alright, let me begin by saying I never had a NES, so this is my first experience with Excitebike. I started at the SNES, so the only NES games I played until the Wii Virtual Console were the Super Mario Bros. games, of course. I now have played basically all the classics and a few not well known gems, except for Excitebike. I don't know how I let this one fly over my head, because it's such a great game. At first, I kept screwing up while landing, and I was like "What in the world? This game is terrible." But then, I figured out that you had to balance the bike using the Slider, and when I figured it out, the game was a blast. The 3D effects are really great, at first I didn't think they were great, but then I figured out that you had to adjust depth in Options. I have no idea why they didn't just make it fully controlled with the Depth Slider, but whatever, the game's 3D is amazing now. The gameplay is great, it's what you would expect from a game like this, try to beat your time or race other CPUs, keep your balance and turbo at the right time. It sounds pretty simple. but it can get very complicated when your trying to figure out the right time and way to land, and the best time to use your turbo. I love racing games, and this is a fine game in the genre. I tried the track maker, I'm terrible at those kinds of things, but I can tell it's great for people who like making their own content in games, and this time around you can save your tracks, a huge plus. Overall, this is a great freebie, and a great game overall that is probably worth paying for even after the offer is over, if the game is priced from $5-8.

Nintendogs + Cats REVIEW

Alright, here is my review for Nintendogs + Cats. This is the 2nd in a pet simulator series made by Nintendo where you take care of dogs, and for the first time, cats. You can't do much with your cat, but you can walk your dog, feed it, bathe it, give it toys, dress it up, enter it in competitions, and more. Now if this sounds really childish, it's not. It is marketed towards children, yes, but it's also very fun and has a little bit of strategy to it. There's just one problem. Not much has changed since the first game. Of the new things, there is a completely revamped walked system. but honestly I liked the original better. The Agility Trial has been replaced with Lure Coursing, which at first I hated, but now I've grown to love it. Nintendogs is still a very fun game, but you really won't miss a lot if you already have the original. I do recommend it, but only if you haven't played the first or are just itching for more dogs. But, this review isn't over yet. I still have a lot more to talk about. If you liked collecting all the items in the first game, you'll love this one. I really liked the item collecting in this one because there's so much to collect! It seems endless. Also, the cats. While they do look cool and cute, they're just there, and they don't do much. There also should be more kinds. Furthermore, this game is way too easy. I mean, it never ends, but still collecting money is a lot easier than it was in the first. There's a gold bar on sale for $9,999 at one of the new BARC stores, and trust me, if you are good at the competitions (and you probably will be), you'll earn the money for it in no time. However, there is some challenge to collect all the items, as you have to find supplies in gift boxes whenever you go on a walk to get some items, and trust me, a lot of them are HARD to find. Miis are a new addition, and while you don't use your own except for your Journal card for StreetPass, Nintendo made ones are the owners of the dogs out walking in this one. It's kind of cool. Oh yeah, StreetPass and SpotPass. Well, with StreetPass, you exchange information with other owners, even if the cartridge isn't in the 3DS, and get to play with their dogs, and possibly get a gift! It's really cool and evolved from Bark Mode on the DS, which was very limited, and I love it. SpotPass is like StreetPass, except you get Miis and dogs from Nintendo, so far, and I have had the game since launch, so I think this is all they have made so far, I have linked up with 2 U.S. Presidents Teddy Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman, and their dogs Pete and Feller. It's funny to see this, but they also have presents and you see them in walks with MORE presents so it's pretty awesome too. I hope Nintendo continues to support Nintendogs + Cats like this. Lastly, the graphics. They are AMAZING! They really show off the 3D capabilities of the 3DS. Things don't pop out that much, but you can see so much depth, it's really amazing! They look great without 3D too, mostly everything is rendered nice and not blurry. This game will last a while, I got the original Nintendogs in 2005 and was STILL playing it right before Nintendogs + Cats came out! It was probably my longest lasting original DS game, and I forsee that happening here too. It's still great, even if it is just a little update from the original. The lasting appeal is great though, especially if Nintendo continues to support SpotPass in this game.

Nintendogs + Cats

P.S. I don't know why it's signing my name as Robin. My name is Hunter. :/

Steel Diver Review

Alright, out of the 3 first-party (made by Nintendo) games available at the Nintendo 3DS launch, Steel Diver is the only new IP, which means it's a totally new series/game, and not based on anything else Nintendo has made. I picked it up because I remember reading an article in a Nintendo Power magazine a couple of months ago, and they were either reviewing Iwata or Reggie Fils-Aime, I can't exactly remember which one, but whichever one it was, they said it was the can't miss first-party title in Nintendo's line-up. It was originally a tech demo for the Nintendo DS at E3 2004, it was simply called "Submarine Tech Demo". Inventive name, huh? But anyway, it hasn't changed much from back then, but that's fine, as this title has some solid gameplay. (A video showing the "Submarine Tech Demo" can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihVNJiKwxtA) Even though the gameplay is fun, some things do hold this title back. The graphics, while they aren't bad, they aren't stellar either. I mean, they're OK but they don't really show off the capabilities of the 3DS. It could've been done on the DS. Also, it's definitely not for everyone. If you can't stand games that move at a slow pace, this game is not for you. Also, I think it's odd to include Time Trials and a timer in Mission Mode when this game is so slow-paced. It just doesn't make sense to me. However, I think most people will enjoy the gameplay, and the whole submarine thing is an intriguing concept. The Periscope Mode is very fun, and a great use of the gyroscope. The controls can be off occasionally, but it doesn't happen much. I have not tried the multiplayer mode, as none of my friends with 3DS's have this game, but from what I have heard it is very good. I do have two more issues with the game though, the combat isn't very great, even though controlling a submarine is supposed to be hard, trying to get that missile in the right place is a little difficult. The other issue, this game is way overpriced and too short. You can beat the Mission mode in 2-3 hours, and while the time trials provide some replay value, they don't last long either. The game is $40, and for that price, I think we should get a lot more content. If you're going to buy it, I would wait until it was on sale or try a friend's copy before you buy.

Final Score:
7.5/10
